My sister told in her letter today that I (and my fiancée) should be proud of. Moving to the another culture is always a bit overwhelming issue. I agree.

I believe recycling and using electronic device longer than planned. It´s a cheaper choice.

Unfortunately, the time cycle of product is too short. For instance I have two years guarantee left. It will expires next month. This E61 is a robust and working phone. Easy access to send mail with QWERTY keypad, nice connectivity possibilities and so forth.

However, Nokia (and other companies nowadays) seem to replace their version very often. I didn´t really see any ground-breaking improvements in their approaches. When comparing E61 and E71 together, E71 has a camera, FM-radio, GPS, and better looking than its older counterpart released two years ago.

For those, who are professional project managers, managing of details are normal routines. However, I am amazed how this skill is so rare to meet among those, who are working in the field of IT. Maybe this skill isn´t as easy as we used to think of it.

I am a professional project manager. I have used to survive with lots of details in many projects simultaneously. For me, it´s like a natural ability to write to-do-lists and keep my eyes on them.

I organize my daily routines in a way that help me to keep on the track.

In the mornings I do a list for daily activities on the paper.

I use a normal pen when I mark those activities on the paper and give priorities (numbers to them. Some of those to-dos I regard as more important.

I follow the created priority order with great discipline and joy. It´s funny to remain faithfull to lists.

When something unusual will happen (everyday there are many occasiations), I write it down and I rearrange my priority list. If it will take only few minutes, I do it immediately without marking it my priority list.

If everything goes right direction, I have striked-through all items on the list.

At the end of the day I sketch to-dos for next day giving these only basic details.

Being coordinator is part of my job. I have found these rules useful. Try to adopt those ideas and develop further to your position before it is getting too messy.

My mom used to ask me, what is the purpose of life, when I was a small child. I considered this question as a silly one then. After growing up I have admired her question. As an question it is a cornerstone for humans, but still people are constantly avoiding to find their own answer to it.

At the moment I have been asking this a thrilling question from me. I have some ideas what it might be, but I am not sure.

To explore it wholly, it may need some

analysing (an inspration to find new paths)

observing (keeping eyes open for new things)

imitation (bounding to other thinkers and their findings)

For instance, I started out my career as an journalist, then extented to IT (Web consultancy). Now I seem to be in the middle of conjuction going to a direction, which is a natural consequence of my choices. I have always wanted to work at international level combining IT/Web with my ambition to create something remarkable.

Helsingin Sanomat, a Finnish daily, reported today that pension has increased rapidly in recent years. Retirees are getting better pensions than before.

That´s true. For instance my parents, who are now retired after serving as teachers, have fantastic pensions. Their economical situation has never been as good shape as now. Maybe this is a result from independent children, who are financing their own life. I am not asking for their money.

So? I am concerned over, what might happen for our generations. Do we have same rights for pensions as our parents have? Helsingin Sanomat told that there are greater risk of falling below the poverty line nowadays than before.

I am wondering now, do I have to look into ways to prevent poverty happen in the future.

Two weeks ago I surprised positively after upgrading Wordpress. Wow - what a user interface. How nice features! I consider that the community around WP has succeed in greating a masterpiece. WP is a real state-of-art system, that is a result of a true Open Source community.

In my perspective WP has taken many steps in many area. It´s UI a simplier and aesthetically well-designed. The whole app seem to be faster than before. I´ll admire the engineering behind of this. Think of The dashboard that welcomes you after signing-up. It shows essential information at one glance.

One of the greatest improvent is a editor, which is the most important function in CMS-systems. I haven´t seen any of like this. The layout of this IU covers everything that is needed for effecting word prosessing. Like bold, italic, strikethroughs and so one are easily at your service. It´s a uploading process that makes this WP a remarkable.

The community has named this uploading as uploading into the media gallery. This simply works well. You need to click on either Add a image or another Add media-icons in editor´s toolbar. It brings you an opportunity to upload material from your computers. Few clicks and your materials will exist in the Media gallery for using in posts/pages. In this gallery you can browse your materials.

You don´t have to worry about how these materials will be placed in your pages, because the editor takes care of everything. For instance it knows what is the width of your paragraph.

If the development goes on like this, that has happen in WP 2.5, what are the consequences in the future. I am showing my eagerness to see this happen.

Couple of weeks ago I was taking part in a job interview. A nice HR-guy politely gained an eye contact and ask a question - Do you improve yourself? I was totally surprised. Of cource I do, I replied.

After recovering the surprise I tried to figure out, what is behind that question. These improving things are my favourites, close to my heart, because I do believe in continuous learning.

One explanation for a strange question of HR-guy might lie a notion that too many people are lazy workers. They don´t take care of themselves by reading books and improving their skills. I guess that this is a common way.

I argue that is a lifelong journey to challenge oneself by asking and looking for answer those questions.

Maybe I have inherited this attitude from my parents, who are devoted readers also in their 60s. They read so many books that I have finished to buy books as a gift.

While I was listening Buddy Rich´s very fascinating big band from the 1970s with my iTunes, I got the feeling. You can use big bands metaphorically, when you are deeply involved in thinking creativity in organisations. During the weekend I was by some means digging out articles around collaboration on the Web. This is one of my passions. I am persistently focusing on how we can cultivate and engourage creativeness in organisations? Since 2007 I have actively been studying this topic throught many perspectives.

As usual I was turning on last.fm (web-based music site) and tuning its channel to Dave Brubeck´s and similar. I am keen on to listen music when I am studing. Of course, there were many artists whose playing were very enthusiastically performed before Buddy Rich. But this former New York born drummer and his colleagues embraced my mind with their spontaneous attitude.

It was definitely the medley “Tommy Medley: Eyesight to the Blind / Champagne / See Me, Feel Me” which makes me so stunned (positively). The famous drummer with his sticks keeping rhythm, saxophones and other brass sections expressing intensively their responses while the basist was giving his walking bass-style as a guide for the entire band. Each of them know exactly their roles without losing their touch to improvising.

It makes sense to me to consider big bands as models for creativity in large groups. In both area, it´s a crucial to create atmosphere in which you can improvise without losing the track of the entire organisation.

Have you recently participate in a situation where a lecturer/speaker seemed to misunderstand the point. I have been. Some remarks about presentations are needed. What makes a good presentation?

Nowadays it is a common to use Powerpoint when you have to give a presentation to an audience. It was the case also for the main character of this story. He was invited to talk about one of biggest problem in our lives - the climate change. I felt this topic itself was so interesting that I found myself sitting among the audience.

I haven´t nothing against his reputation as a scientist. He seemed to deserve his position as a leading authority on the field of the climate change. He truly knows! But, maybe this was a one of problem. He used these Powerpoint slides in way what made me ill.

It think that main cause for my illness is a simple. His presentation was based on many details which was filled in every slides. Figures, graphs, texts were mixed together, which literally exploded my imagination.

I didn´t understand anything due to info-overloaded slides that were trying to covering all. It´s so sad.

How to use Powerpoint effectively?

During this awful lecture I realized that it was´t Powerpoint´s fault to this failure. I think those slides have theirs abilities to help lectures to show their expertices to the listeners. For instance, you are able to give them as handouts after lecture.

Some tips to bear in mind, when you are making prepation for you presentation with Powerpoint:

Less is absolutely more! Simplify, simplify, simplify!

Tell stories in your own style. Stories are easier to remember afterwards.

Speak slow and recap main points at the end.

Of cource this is much more easier to say from the crowd.

In my point of view (I am working as web consultant / project manager) customers seem reluctant to pay attention to visioning. I consider visioning the most important part for creating a success story on the Web. This serie is one out of four stories (vision, visuals, technical, culture) in which I am exploring, what is behind of The Successful Site.

It is not difficult to understand why vision (business plan or marketing/communication plan) is so crusial factor for good outcome. Without guidance or compass it is hard to survive and find proper place A instead of B or even Z. In context of Web vision represent a starting point. It´s everything.

Unfortunately, it´s so common to notice that customers rely on too easily for technical solutions and platforms. They are trying to see these important parts as guardian angels that are capable to help them. But, you can´t compensate poor visioning for technical solution.

For example you aren´t able to make money with e-commerce if you haven´t proper plan to use these e-commerce platforms. In some cases, it´s waste of money to create websites in that way. I´ve seen customer who are totally lost.

Good ways to avoid problems described above is to stop and clarify your current position.

Identify what you are doing. Try to examine situations in which you see web solutions to help your business or marketing/communication at the moment. It´s a nice way to describe situations in concrete ways.

What kind of goals do you want to achieve in future? Do you to set up for services what will boost your business process? Are you looking for better customer service as well as wellbeing in your staff? These goals are essential because they are sorting out bad ideas

Hire a consultant or ask advices from other professional. They suppose to give your tips like by surveying your current services you can get ideas for concepting new.
